Our Commitment to Conservation
We believe in the safe, intentional exploration—and active stewardship—of God’s creation. To ensure the wild spaces we explore remain protected for generations to come, Waypoint Wilderness Medical Consultants donates 20% of all profits directly to verified wilderness conservation organizations. Every consultation and expedition package directly supports the preservation of public lands, wildlife habitats, and backcountry trails.
Meet the Founders
Waypoint Wilderness Medical was built at the intersection of advanced clinical medicine and elite military planning.
Founded and led by Shana Metzger, DNP, APRN, an Air Force Reserve officer and Emergency Nurse Practitioner with over 14 years of emergency and rural medicine experience, Waypoint brings advanced clinical oversight to remote backcountry operations. With specialized training in deployment health planning for austere locations and experience as a military instructor for Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) and Walking Blood Bank protocols, Shana directs all client medical screenings, high-altitude preparation strategies, primary care provider discussion frameworks, and custom Emergency Action Plans (EAPs).
Co-founder Christopher Mendez, MS, USMC-retired, complements the clinical practice with battle-tested operational planning. A decorated foreign war veteran who retired after more than 20 years of honorable service in the U.S. Marine Corps as an Intelligence Specialist, Christopher applies his deep background in intelligence, route threat modeling, and advanced planning to strengthen Waypoint’s risk mitigation protocols.
Together, our leadership combines military-grade operational risk management, intelligence analysis, and advanced austere trauma expertise. We share a passion for the safe, intentional exploration of God’s creation—and a commitment to preserving it for future generations by donating 20% of all profits directly to wilderness conservation organizations.
